DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT - DCAandrea wileyBeing in Memphis for 18 years earns you the right to call yourself a Memphian, and Andrea wouldn’t have it any other way. Originally from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, she’s worked in Downtown her entire creative career, and serves as President of the Memphis Chapter of the American Advertising Federal (AAF). what is the lifestyle like for a person in the creative field living in downtown?"For anyone in the creative field, Downtown is simply the place to be. A majority of the advertising agencies are located here, and we are a tight knit group. Downtown creates a collaborative environment. I might run into a colleague at a board meeting, or just walking down the street on my way to lunch. It's a natural community for creatives. I'm an advocate for Downtown, I don't want to work anywhere else." what differences do you see between downtown and office park?“I’ve been to lots of different cities, and it’s a completely different vibe being Downtown than in a suburban area. A majority of the agencies are Downtown, and we all know each other and are supportive of each other. We’re involved with things such as AAF, and it’s fun to see the creative work that’s being done here. It's just an inspirational and collaborative place, a community really. You won’t find that in an office park where each business is surrounded by highways and parking lots. It’s a melting pot of different types of people and you can’t find that anywhere else.” where do you take clients?“We have so many different places to go! Obviously there’s Grizzlies, Redbirds and Tigers games, but we go out to eat fancy dinners or casual lunches. But our outings are just about the games or food, but the whole experience. It starts on Beale Street and there’s a drumline or live music, then the energy builds up and everyone’s having a great time, and after we hit a Grizzlies game we grab a drink on South Main. The things that are unique to Memphis are in Downtown and it's so special to have that right outside of your office.” where do you find inspiration Downtown?“The fact that we have the Civil Rights Museum and Blues Foundation right across from our office is truly inspiring. There is so much passion about the things we have going on here in Memphis that creativity comes from that. It’s also great to get outside and take in the beauty of Downtown. Tom Lee Park and South Bluffs are the best spots to go on a walk, and it’s really unique and inspiring to have this urban landscape mixed with so many natural elements.” Can you tell us more about Bike Share and your daily commute?“Bike Share began as an effort to research the feasibility of adding bike share to Memphis. We want to start a revolution of the way people commute around the city. Bike sharing is pretty simple...you go to a station, pick up a bike, and go! Then you drop it at another station when you’re done. My quality of life is really important to me, and the idea I can walk or bike to work every day has always been really appealing. Living Downtown in Mud Island is amazing, so I’m glad our city is becoming more human-friendly every day.” |
