associate attorney - Baker DonelsonMccauley WILLIAMSMcCauley grew up in Midtown and has been with Baker Donelson for a year and a half after going to college in Virginia. After going off to college, he didn’t plan to return home. He’s back in the Bluff City because he knows he can make a difference here in his hometown. What are your favorite aspects of working Downtown?“I love the walkability and social community Downtown brings to my daily life. I’m in the center of our urban core, and every day I see a familiar face outside of the office. Memphis is pretty spread out, but a benefit of Downtown is that we can walk to everything we need. As a Memphian, you can only experience that here. You can take in the beauty of our buildings and murals that you wouldn’t have time to in a car. The lifestyle here is unlike any other.” How does being Downtown benefit you from a business persepctive?“The courthouse and court system is all Downtown. We have attorneys that handle all litigation work, so being this close is invaluable. Other firms that have to commute are using their time driving while I’m able to physically walk there. It’s accessible, and my time isn’t wasted behind the wheel. I’m able to network more often because I see people around instead of feeling isolated within the four walls of my office.” What do you love about your office space?“Our views are tremendous. That alone keeps everyone’s morale high. It’s awesome to look outside your window and see the river and buildings surrounded by the bustle of Downtown. We are surrounded by natural light. I actually only print to a specific printer that gives me the best view of our river on the opposite side, because it’s just so cool. Not to mention we get to be in the First Tennessee Building. I’ve got access to the bank downstairs, and during holidays and sporting events the building is lit up with fun designs like a Christmas tree or ‘Go Grizz’. I’m proud to point to my office when friends ask where I work.” Do you have any hidden gems in Downtown?“I’ve got three for you. I love different ethnic food, and Havana’s is amazing Cuban restaurant next to our office that I’ve gotten most the office hooked on. Maciel’s is a Mexican spot that just opened up, and it’s just unreal. If you need a solid sandwich though, you’ve got to go with Courhouse Deli. They’ve been in Downtown for 13 years, and there’s a reason for that.” |
