Slide him a beer across the table, give him a pen, and let the ideas start flowing. What does it feel like to work Downtown?“You work in the city, but it has the feel of a small town. You walk down Main Street and have historic buildings all around you. You constantly bump into people you know and randomly grab lunch. My commute is really ideal. It's an easy drive to and from work, and I don't hit any traffic which is perfect! There’s character here. Clients notice that when they visit, and it makes it easy to build relationships with them.” What about your office space is unique?“It used to be a local hangout spot when we were younger. As we were renovating it, the workers brought up fun memories they had here. Same goes for clients and friends when they visit. We’re fortunate to come to a cool place and work every day. It’s attractive for employees to be close to Harbor Town and the Pyramid, have an outdoor patio out back, be able to walk into the city whenever you need to. It’s affordable to have our office here. We have more space, more fun, and it’s less money. You can’t get that anywhere else.” How does being Downtown fuel your creativity?“Being able to get out and walk and see things around you instead of seeing cars and parking lots. We’ve had spaces in other areas of Memphis, and being here is the perfect fit. I go and grab a drink somewhere or sit on a patio outside to get my creative juices flowing again. The creative industry is pretty tight knit here, so getting to see others being creative keep me inspired.” How do you show clients around?"We get to take a lot of our clients out to eat and drink after work, and everyone knows Downtown has the best places for that. It can be as upsale or as hometown as you want. We'll sometimes go to Beale Street and then to Itta Bena, which has a sort of secret vibe about it that people love. Clients will come from out East and not leave. They plan a work outing whenever we have meetings and stay Downtown because they're having so much fun." What's your favorite hidden gem in Downtown?"Roxie's Groceries in Uptown has the best burgers. Go get one...now!" |
