Jade has been an artist since he was a kid when he watched his family members sketch and followed along with them. When they put the pads down, he’d pick them up. Now as a freelancer who uses Downtown restaurants, coffee shops and bars as remote office space, you can always find Jade with a sketchbook, easel, or laptop creating a new piece of work.

Where do you do your work at Downtown?

“I like to work from home and at different spots throughout the city. live in Central Station, so all the coffee shops and bars in South Main are convenient for me to go and sketch. I like to get out during the day, have a drink and talk to people while I sketch. It just feels right. All the restaurants and bars know me because I’m always there working and meeting new people. It’s perfect for what I do.”

Why did you decide to move Downtown?

“I grew up spending a lot of time in Downtown on the Main Street Mall and when I got older I knew I wanted to be here. I like going to different bars and art galleries. It’s easy to get around because I can park my car anywhere and everywhere is walkable.”

Where do you find inspiration from?

---

“You can go anywhere else, and the best place to be is Downtown. Here you've got the biggest attractions, the best food, and the best entertainment. It’s inspirational to me to be able to invite my friends to my place so we can catch a trolley and explore the city. I see art in everything that’s Downtown...the people, the tourists, the buildings, the art, the culture…if I go anywhere else I just see people go in and out of houses.”

How has living and working Downtown benefitted you?

“I do a lot of business down here. I meet different folks and make connections from just socializing. I work on restaurant menus, help throw events and parties, put together art galleries and give my opinion on things they do. I’m able to create stuff.”

What’s your favorite software to use to create your art?

“I live on Photoshop and Illustrator. I do a lot of photo editing on my phone as well, so I don’t have to get on my computer and I can take it with me.”
