Vice president/director - the consortium mmtGeorge C. Monger IIIGrowing up in South Memphis, George has always had a heart for the city. With work experience in almost every part of Memphis, he’s glad to finally be with all the culture of Downtown. Whenever you see George, you'll likely see his two-year-old son terrorizing his office or playing in Tom Lee Park by the Mississippi River. Why is it important for you to be Downtown?“Memphis’ soul lives in Downtown. The Consortium is here because this is where things are happening and where our city is being transformed. Our programs are just getting their legs, and Downtown is strengthening those legs. We’re able to quickly get to community assets within the area whether that’s a financial partner, founder, or event. The best resources are found here. It’s the best place to hold a meeting, get food and go have fun.” How does having your office Downtown allow you to impact the community?“We wanted to be Downtown. Meeting our sound and aesthetic needs was something that was vital for us, and the space we found on Main Street really meets those desires. We wanted to expand our footprint here by having an outward facing facility for all of our musicians to come in. From a foot traffic perspective, our space brings in new talent looking to get involved with us. Being on Main Street in the heart of Downtown allows people to see us and ask, ‘How can I get engaged? How can I volunteer? How can I give?’ We’re one of the most philanthropic cities, so it’s great to help enable the Memphians desire to make an impact. Downtown is vital to what we do.” How does having your office Downtown allow you to impact the community?“We wanted to be Downtown. We take one step out of our building and we’re right in the mix. It’s easy to take them out and show people what the city is all about. As we attract new individuals to our community, there’s nothing better than being a few blocks from the nightlife and culture of Memphis. It’s natural for them to embrace our city.” |
